Vineyards, Veils & Very Good Dogs

Some weddings stay with you — and this one will forever have a piece of my heart.

Back in January, I had the honour of photographing Astrid and Harry’s official ceremony in the UK - a quiet, emotional day that felt incredibly personal. So when they asked me to join them again, this time for a three-day wedding celebration at Chateau de Garde, a vineyard tucked away in the Bordeaux countryside, I didn’t even hesitate. I already felt like part of the family.

From start to finish, this wedding was a dream: modern, romantic, relaxed, and completely true to them.

The weekend kicked off with a casual welcome party in the gardens, complete with a burger van (one of the best I've ever had), the Aperol was flowing along with the the buzz of conversation as their closest people arrived from around the world. That set the tone for everything that followed - unfussy, joyful, and full of love.

Despite the unprecitably stormy weather, they had a beautiful outdoor ceremony set up in the gardens at the front of the property. The most stunning flower arrangements featured at the top of the aisle, with fresh petals picked for confetti. When Astrid made her way down aisle her veil had lifted in the breeze and flown clean off — but without missing a beat, she kept walking toward Harry, completely serene, as if nothing in the world mattered more than reaching him. The ceremony was officiated by a close family friend, with readings from each of her bridesmaids. It was so special.

And of course throughout the entire event the dogs absolutely stole the show. They followed Astrid around all morning like loyal little shadows, joined the confetti toss, and even lined up patiently at the buffet. But they had some strong competition from the children having the best time, and in the evening partied harder than most of the grown-ups. From dancing barefoot to sneaking extra desserts, they brought an energy that made everything feel even more alive.

As a candid, editorial wedding photographer, I’m always watching for the little in-between moments - the things you can’t script or plan. This wedding was full of them. One of my favourites was Astrid pulling out a Polaroid camera and snapping a photo of her bridesmaids in a true moment of Girlhood. It really showed just how grounded, present and full of love for everybody she was.

And we have to talk about THAT portrait by the pool. I captured a quiet moment of Astrid standing alone, framed by stillness and soft light. Dressed in her all-lace, intricately detailed gown, she looked like she’d stepped straight off the cover of Vogue. It was one of those timeless, editorial moments that just stops you in your tracks.

The morning after, we all gathered again in the most stunning courtyard for a French-style brunch - flaky pastries, strong coffee, and stories from the night before. It felt like the perfect ending to a celebration that was as much about love as it was about community.

Weddings like this are why I do what I do. Being there across three days meant I didn’t just document moments — I lived them too. Astrid and Harry, thank you for trusting me with this chapter of your story. I’ll never forget it.
